Shore Capital, the independent investment group specialising in equity capital markets, principal finance and alternative asset management, is delighted to announce that it has been named Europe’s third most productive broker in the prestigious Thomson Reuters StarMine awards for 2013.
StarMine measures the performance of brokers over sets of stocks in two different ways: by the returns of their buy/sell recommendations and the accuracy of their earnings estimates. The Most Productive Broker awards are given to the three firms that have earned the highest number of individual analyst awards relative to the total number of qualifying analysts in their firm.
This year, the top three most productive brokers were Bryan, Garnier & Co in 1st place; SG Securities in 2nd place; and Shore Capital in 3rd place.
In the analyst awards two Shore Capital equities analysts ranked in the top 10:
Phil Carroll, the Company’s beverages and agriculture analyst, was named Europe’s top stock picker for his sector; and
Gary Greenwood, the Company’s banking analyst ranked 1st in Europe for the accuracy of his earnings estimates.
The StarMine awards follow an excellent performance by the Company in this year’s Thomson Extel Small to Mid Cap survey. Shore Capital featured in the top 10 for UK Small & Mid-Cap brokers with nine sectors voted in a top 10 position and five recorded in the top five by fund managers: construction (3rd), consumer goods (3rd), healthcare (4th), insurance (2nd) and UK strategy (4th). In the individual analyst scoring, Alex Stewart was ranked 5th in UK strategy; Gavin Jago and Jon Bell were ranked 3rd and 4th respectively in construction; and Eamonn Flanagan was ranked 2nd in insurance.
Commenting on the awards, Dr. Clive Black, Head of Research at Shore Capital, said: “Recognition in the StarMine Awards is an important endorsement of our research approach, which is based upon fundamental analysis of those equities we cover – appraising not just earnings, but management teams, their strategies, the quality of the earnings generated by companies and their cash flows.”
Simon Fine, Head of Equity Capital Markets at Shore Capital, said: “Clive’s research team embodies the Company’s values of integrity, drive, competence and trust. They are among the most respected teams working in the UK’s equities markets and recognition in the StarMine awards demonstrate the strength of our research capabilities.”
